The preschool program at New Heights School seeks to educate the whole child.  We look at research-based, developmentally appropriate practices to determine how and what we teach.  We believe that our preschoolers should be nurtured spiritually, socially, cognitively, emotionally, and physically.  Our program offers opportunities to develop on each level. We seek to instill in the young child, the beginnings of a Christian world view. Throughout the child's day, God's Word is integrated during activities and instruction.  Preschoolers go through a brief progress of redemption.  ABeka Bible materials are used to supplement.

Research shows that young children learn best through play.  We believe it is important to balance teacher-directed activities with spontaneous play, guided play, and directed play. Our program emphasizes age-appropriate activities and individual student needs.  The Handwriting Without Tears curriculum "Get Set for School" is our primary curriculum. "Get Set for School" is a comprehensive preschool program including: Readiness and Writing, Language and Literacy, and Numbers and Math.  Other activities that our preschoolers participate in are listed below.

Music
Preschoolers are engaged in musical activities every day within their classrooms.  They also go to music class once a week.

Chapel
3K and 4K classes join a school-wide chapel every Monday morning.  Chapel is a time for singing, worshiping, meeting together as a family, and reinforcing Biblical principles and character traits.

Aikido
Aikido is a great way to use our muscles and practice coordination skills.  Our preschoolers get the opportunity to participate in Aikido for one 9 weeks session during their regular school day.

Soccer
Soccer is another way that our preschoolers are able to practice gross motor skills, use their muscles, develop self-esteem, and practice social skills.  Our preschoolers participate in one 9 weeks of soccer during their regular school day.
Library
Our library is filled with Christian literature as well as a plethora of just-for-fun books.  There is a balance of fiction and nonfiction to please all of our young "readers."

Rolling Reader
Every week Mrs. Lambert visits our preschoolers with a new book to share.  Our preschoolers look forward to her visit and can't wait to see what book she has brought this week.

Reading Buddies
Our preschoolers have the privilege of developing relationships with older students in our school.  In our reading buddies program, older students are paired with our preschoolers for a fun time of reading together.  Our older students get the opportunity to serve and practice their reading skills.  Our preschoolers gain self-confidence and attain reading skills by listening to an approved story.
